Wish I'd Known That... Tips for Taking Technology to College
Published in Paperback by Children's Software Press (July, 2002)
Authors: Diane S. Kendall and Merle Marsh
Average review score:

What a relief! Someone else has thought this through!!
This is exactly what we need to think about as we prepare our high school senior for technology at college. In the laptop vs. desktop debate, this handy, informative books lays out the pros and cons. It's perfect for those of us who will either have to transport equipment a few thousand miles or decide to buy it on site. I heartily recommend this book for any parents preparing to buy technology for their collegiate children.

The Best Technology Reference Book When Going Away 2 College
This book offers great tips and advice on technology all those going away to college will need. As one reads it, one will definitely learn something new whether it's about computers, laptops, desktops or handhelds.

Not all those going away to college can afford to buy a laptop or a desktop. Hence, this book suggests ways one could get best offers in technology. Did you know some colleges and universities rent computers? I didn't know until I read this book. Now that's a good catch for those who are not willing to buy a computer.

Wish I'd Known That is something I would recommend to everyone going off to college. It's a great book everyone will find helpful. I did. You will not know how useful it is until you buy it.

Don't Forget to Include This Book in Your College Backpack
This new book makes technology decisions easy for students as they prepare for their adventure in college education. It provides knowlegeable help in selecting the correct hardware, software and add ons for a student's technology package.
The authors have a great feel for the questions and difficulties encountered by students and their parents as they begin the collegiate journey.
Parents will be reassured as they read the comments and suggestions presented to the students - good sound technology advice. In fact, as a school administrator, I plan to share many of the helpful ideas with my faculty and students.
This book will guide even inexperienced users on their way to success with technology in their college careers. I plan to give this book as a gift to several students embarking on their college journey in the fall.

Knitting With Dog Hair: Better a Sweater from a Dog You Know and Love Than from a Sheep You'll Never Meet
Published in Paperback by St. Martin's Press (February, 1997)
Authors: Kendall Crolius and Anne Montgomery
Average review score:

Good Reading
I bought this book 2 years ago and it is still good reading. It gives easy-to-follow instructions on how to clean, card, and spin other animal fur as well as doghar.....And it has made me more comfortable to know that there are others who do this and not that I am just spending too much time in the woods (As I have been accused of by neighbors)

How much is that doggy in the window?
Golden retriever scarves, Grand Pyranees hats, Siamese socks, and Samoyed sweaters! Kendall Crolius and Anne Montgomery force you not only to examine the logic of what materials to use for knitting, but also offer a new yardstick of the knit value of household pets. I have to admit that if I ever seek another dog, I'm going to be looking at the silky haired retrievers instead of short haired varieties that offer little more than dander and love. No more bulldogs or boxers for me--I want a dog that I can brush, spin, and knit big soft golden retriever sweaters. Truly a breakthrough in pragmatic thought!

FInally, a book to recycle something I have more of than any
Everyone in my house thought I was crazy until I brought home Kendall Crolius' book. She goes from start to finish, with suggestions for every step and every breed that you can use, to help you do it yourself. If you want your chore to be only the "colection", then she will point you in the right direction for sources for spinners & knitters. (This is the tack I took.)The book proved most helpful, making it possible for you to have a truly unique & cherished product either for yourself or for loved ones.

Gathering Remnants: A Tribute to the Working Cowboy
Published in Hardcover by Prairie Creek Productions (01 January, 2001)
Authors: Kendall Nelson, Felicitas Funke-Riehle, Clint Eastwood, and Clint Eastwood
Average review score:

Shooting cowboys and buckaroos on the open range
Here's another book of fine photography devoted to cowboys and buckaroos, this time put together by three women. It's a big oversize book, with 48 black and white plates by California photographer Kendall Nelson. The rather worshipful and romantic text is by German-born writer Felicitas Funke-Riehle. Gretel Ehrlich has provided an introduction about the lonely, hard work of a cowboy, written in her own meticulous eye-for-detail style. (Clint Eastwood has a brief 5-sentence foreword.)

The photos were taken 1996-1999 on several ranches in Nevada, with some additional shots taken in Texas, Wyoming, and Idaho. Most of them are of individual cowboys, many with their horses. Typically they are captured against a sweeping terrain under a big sky with scattered clouds. A buckaroo gathers sage brush for a branding fire. Another sits in the open flap of a teepee tent bent over a silver bit he's repairing, Four vaqueros sit in the shade against a wall, smoking cigarettes, the oldest of them watching the photographer.

Cowboys move cattle through sage brush, raising clouds of dust. A cowboss stands with his wife and son against the plank walls of a shed, their three border collies gathered at their feet. A man leans, head down against a fence, snow collecting on the brim of his hat. The photographs capture the relentless, hard work of these men and something of their solitude. Even as they wait for their horses (see cover photograph) they stand separately, keeping a distance between them. I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in cowboys, cattle ranching, Western life, and thoughtful photography. For vintage photographs of cowboys, I suggest also Richard Collins' "The American Cowboy."

Classic cowboy photos
Timeless black and white photography of a timeless subject, Cowboys of the American West. Well done with an obvious emotional connection to her work. A must for everyone's home and heart!

A beautiful tribute to the American west - you'll love it!
If you have any interest in cowboys or the American west, you'll love this book. The stunning photographs and elegent text tell the story of a simple, rugged lifestyle that is, sadly, disappearing all too quickly from our national landscape.

You'll want to keep this one handy to look at again and again. And it makes a great gift!

The Bounty Hunters
Published in Paperback by Dell Pub Co (March, 1993)
Authors: Elmore Leonard and Kendall
Average review score:

Good showing by Leonard
It isn't very often that I get time to read fiction anymore, but when I read a good book I feel a certain responsibility to let people know about it. I'm James Drury, and I've played in plenty of Western shows myself. For those of you who don't know me I portrayed The Virginian on NBC television for many years. So I hope that qualifies me to leave a review on a Western book. Of course I could say the same thing about any Elmore Leonard book I've had the pleasure of reading, but the Bounty Hunters was great. It was short and to the point, but Leonard has this way of giving you such a great feel for the country and old West settings it just makes the book pleasant. He excels at making us see what he does in very few words. I have read all of the Western novels of Kirby Jonas on audio, and while I of course think he is my favorite author of Westerns, I have to say I have never read a bad Elmore Leonard book, and The Bounty Hunters is no exception. I don't know Leonard's history as far as how he does his research. I know Kirby Jonas lived in southeast Arizona when he was working on his first books, however, and it seems to me that Leonard has done a large amount of work in getting the facts about the Arizona and Mexico country down pat. I guess I've gotten into the habit of comparing every Western author not to Louis L'Amour but to Kirby Jonas, and although I would never put Leonard above Jonas I would sure say his books would "do to ride the river," with Jonas', so to speak. Give the Bounty Hunters a try. Right now I'm starting into Escape from Five Shadows, and it already holds great promise!

Never Bad
Since I was given three of Elmore Leonards westerns by a good friend of mine I have been buying and reading them often. As yet I have not read a bad one. So far they are ALL GOOD.

Good Bye
Forty Lashes Less One is a great story. Two prisoners, Chiricahua Raymond San Carlos and a black man Harold Jackson are in Yuma prison for murder. At first they are bitter enemies but the warden puts them in an experiment to see if a training routine of long distance running can be used for rehabilatation. And then the warden sends them after 5 mean dangerous men. The trail is rough and bloody but they are sucessfull. As soon as they bring these men in they tell the warden to kiss !!! . A great story, you'll love it.

All-time Great
I can't find words expressive enough to convey how much I love this book. Its characters have stayed with me vividly in the 13 years since I first read it. Get this book, keep it, do not trust your friends to return it.

One HELL of a read... a real page-turner
I found Mr. Kendall's work to be amazing. The storyline is well developed and the characters are phenomonal. The thought of Earth humans being an orphaned race pitied by the rest of the races is an intriguing concept not often explored. Especially the fact that humans take that shame and turn it into pride. And the "family" tone, absolutely breathtaking. If you can find a copy of this book, GET IT! You will NOT be disappointed

One of the few books that I didn't want to ever end!!
I read this book so many times that I almost knew it by heart. If ever a book deserved to be made into a movie, this is one. I would spend my last dime to replace this book.

God Meant It for Good
Published in Paperback by Morningstar Publications (July, 1994)
Author: R. T. Kendall
Average review score:

You can believe it !
R.T. Kendall reveals the heart of GOD and the desire of every longing heart - to see the blessings and peace of God show up in your lifetime.

This book was given to me by friends Paul and Louise Lyons who said "David has to read this book." They were right - it was a blessing to me as GOD's love and care was affirmed as the living scriptures and Kendall's insights came to life.

Joseph has been one of God's metaphor's for my life. So, this was going to be an exciting read anyway! But God, in his plan, had even greater things in store. The affirmations were amazing and the revelations were beyond description as God revealed his love for me again through his servants. This book affirmed what GOD has been speaking to me in these days for all who would believe, "...I love you and have great plans for you." Nothing can hinder the plan of GOD - for those who love him and are called according to his purposes.

Read this book, but get to know the ones behind it all. The Father, Son (Jesus) and Holy Spirit have so much for us! Release the past and pain to GOD. Forgive and be forgiven. Watch amazing things happen in your life.

I'm going to .... because GOD means it for good.

One of my top 5 books of all time!
This is a great book for any one who has spent time in a "dungeon" of any kind. RT Kendall works through the life of Joseph from being hated and betrayed by his brothers to being exalted to the palaces of Egypt. There are tremendous life lessons to be learned from this book. Highly recommended!!

God Meant It For Good by R.T. Kendall
This is an excellent resource for individuals who are convinced God has called them to a place of significant ministry, but whose lives seem racked with troubles and obstacles to the realization of their vision.

Using the Old Testament historical Joseph as an example of his principle, R.T. Kendall lays out a critically important phase in the life of any person who has been or will be greatly used by God, and that is PREPARATION FOR MINISTRY THROUGH PURIFICATION.

How filled with hope this book is; how enlightening and applicable to one's own personal journey. It helps make sense of the mysterious and sometimes painful period between calling and fulfillment of a ministry.

Highly recommended for serious disciples of the Lord.

Why 2K is OK

very funny book
a lot of pictures that shows all the things that could break down (pcs, backbones, hard drives, your blender) and then shows reasons why all of us will survive. Sort of a "life WILL go on" book in pics. Actually a pretty funny read (quick).

Hillariously funny view of the Millenium Bug!!
Messrs Kendall and Arbogast approach to the Y2K issue is right on the money. The pictures and ancedotal commentary are hillarious. A great gift for those who are stocking up food and water for their New Years Eve party!!!

what a great idea!!!
if you ever saw "separated at birth," and liked it, you'll like this. Each page has two pictures: one side is of something from everyday pre-Y2K life, like a copier. The other side is another picture depicting WHY everything will be cool in 2K...like a monk making copies on a stone tablet.

Some pics are real baaaaad humor. But that's helps make this one work. Recommended

Pugs in Public

Amazing-one of the best pug books around.
I found this book so amazing. I don't have a pug but I want one so much. I read so many pug books. This is very unique. I love it. If you love pugs or dogs this is a must. It was great, funny, informative, and so much more. I want a sequal or something!

Posh Pugs!
Nice book about and for people who pamper their Pugs. Not intended to be a "useful training tool" (I don't know where the reviewer below got the impression that it was supposed to be..!) but just a cute fluffy book about a select group of upscale NYC pugs and their eccentric owners. Photos and more info of "Pug Hill" in Central Park would have been nice (but perhaps too common?). Makes a good mini-coffee table book or x-mas gift for your uppity Pug pals.

Entertaining and full of heart!
This is the perfect gift for a Pug owner! If you love dogs, especially Pugs, this is your book. Darling bios on pugs and their owners. Should be titled "Pugs in the City". This is an homage to the breed not a training book or breed standard information. This is pug entertainment.

Peter Pan

Authors: James Matthew Barrie and Roe Kendall

Review for Peter Pan
You will laugh, cry and be confused when you read this book. This book can teach you that what you think is good is not always good.

There is a boy named Peter Pan. He sprinkles fairy dust in Wendy and her two brothers. Then he shows them how to fly. He takes them to Neverland and shows them to the Lost Boys who live there. Wendy becomes their mother. She makes up rules, like any other mother would do. The boys have to follow these rules. Everything was fine until Captain Hook came with his crew to where the boys and Wendy were. While Wendy and the boys were at the lagoon, where they go every day after dinner, they see a girl named Tiger Lily, princess of her tribe. She was captured by Smee, one of Captain Hook's men. Then Peter saved her. A few days later Wendy and the boys were on their way to Wendy's house when they too were all captured by Captain Hook. Then Peter saves them. Then the lost boys, Wendy and her brothers go home. All except for Peter.

It is mostly about what the people in the book think is right with childhood. The kids in the book think that if you grow up it is bad, but in our case it is actually good.

Peter Pan is a violent book not really made for children under the age of 10 but people 10 and up can read it. It is violent because of the language that is spoken and the idea that killing could be fun. Also, the vocabulary is very difficult for children under 10 to understand. Even if you're older it is difficult to understand.

Overall, it is a good book but watch out for the violent ideas if you are reading it to little children.

Become a child...again
When talking of literature, people tend to look solely at books they read today but forget what they used to read, namely the ones we read as children. It is a common misunderstanding that children's literature is to be read by children and children only, but when we come to think of it, which one of us are not children, at least in our hearts?

One of the best books any child, young or old, can read is Barrie's Peter Pan. Although written in the past century, it has something for any generation at any time. Its humorous views at the world from a child's mind left me rolling over the floor, laughing; the exciting storyline kept me busy with reading until the end; and the serious undertone made me think of whether the world wouldn't be a better place if we realised that deep down, however deep, we are in fact all children. So if YOU are a child, which you most certainly are, get yourself a copy and enjoy your ongoing childhood.

A classic
This is an utterly charming work. It has been retold myriad times, but nobody else has done it as well as the original teller, J. M. Barrie.

It's difficult to know what to say about a book like this... everybody knows the story. But I guess that unless you've read this book (not just seen a movie or read a retelling), you don't really know the character Peter Pan, and without knowing the character, you don't really know the story. So read it.

By the way, if you enjoy this, you probably would also like "Sentimental Tommy" and its sequel "Tommy and Grizel", both by Barrie. There are differences (for one thing they're not fantasy), but there are also compelling similarities. Anybody who found Peter Pan a deep and slightly bittersweet book would be sure to enjoy them.

-Stephen
